چکیده

This paper presents JUDGEMAP2 model for judgment based on DUAL cognitive architecture. Context is considered like the content of WM that comprises both some external elements from the surrounding environment and some internal memories elicited from the LTM. The paper focuses on the mechanisms of construction of the dynamic content of the WM. In JUDGEMAP2, the mechanism responsible for building the content of the WM (e.g. context) is a spreading activation mechanism. It leads to an unusual prediction – that irrelevant dimensions takes part in judgment. The data, obtained by the simulations are tested and confirmed in a psychological experiment.

The influence of improper sets of information on judgment: how irrelevant information can bias judged probability.

This article introduces 2 new sources of bias in probability judgment, discrimination failure and inhibition failure, which are conceptualized as arising from an interaction between error prone memory processes and a support theory like comparison process. Both sources of bias stem from the influence of irrelevant information on participants' probability judgments, but they postulate different ...

Mental Construal and the Emergence of Assimilation and Contrast Effects: The Inclusion/Exclusion Model

The inclusion/exclusion model provides an integrative framework for conceptualizing the emergence of assimilation and contrast effects in evaluative judgment. The model assumes that feature-based evaluative judgments require a mental representation of the object of judgment (target) and of a standard to which the target is compared. Both representations are context-sensitive and based on the in...

Effects of Working Memory Capacity on Metacognitive Monitoring: A Study of Group Differences Using a Listening Span Test

Monitoring is an executive function of working memory that serves to update novel information, focusing attention on task-relevant targets, and eliminating task-irrelevant noise. The present research used a verbal working memory task to examine how working memory capacity limits affect monitoring. Participants performed a Japanese listening span test that included maintenance of target words an...

Fair judgment 1 Running head: Fair judgment How the motivation to judge fair influences memory for in- and out-group behavior

The present study investigated the subtle effects of an instruction to judge fairly and to avoid the influence of stereotypes on judgments. Previous studies have shown that instructions to disregard stereotypes may lead to an enhanced accessibility of the respective stereotype, which, in turn, facilitates encoding and identification of stereotype-consistent information, but not of stereotype-ir...

Prolonged Interruption of Cognitive Control of Conflict Processing Over Human Faces by Task-Irrelevant Emotion Expression

As documented by Darwin 150 years ago, emotion expressed in human faces readily draws our attention and promotes sympathetic emotional reactions. How do such reactions to the expression of emotion affect our goal-directed actions? Despite the substantial advance made in the neural mechanisms of both cognitive control and emotional processing, it is not yet known well how these two systems inter...
